It has been a blur of a week - which has felt more like a month- as John and I are getting back into the busy-ness of life. It seems like I should be able to get a "time-out" and take a break from all the reality of work, school, etc, but that is not how it happens, I guess. John has been great through the physical recovery- letting me sleep in (which means getting up at 7 instead of 5) and rest on the couch when I need to.
Thanksgiving was quiet this year - I slept through most of it myself- but we do have a lot to be thankful for in spite of what has happened recently. I am so thankful for my wonderful husband, my sweet babies, our health, my beautiful home, our jobs, our families, our friends... God has blessed us abundently.
Jack was evaluated for speech therapy this week- and has been accepted into the speech program... so that will start after the first of the year. This was to be expected with his having had a cleft palate and the underdeveloped jaw. Although I have known since he was born that he may have some speech delays... it was still very emotional and hard to have someone else watch and analyze my sweet boy talk, play, respond, etc- I felt very defensive! (I felt that some of the tests were WAY too advanced for a 2-year-old, and that even Aggie would have had problems answering them- and my girl is the sharpest little 2 year old I have ever known!) They say that he is not far behind other 2 year olds with his speech and language, but will just need to be taught the things that Anna Grace will naturally pick up. But of course he won them over by the end of the session- there is just something about my Jackie-boy that draws people to him... he is so affectionate and sweet- he loves everybody- and was hugging everyone in the office by the time we left.
I did pick up the remains of baby James this week- it was unexpected but I felt such a sense of relief to have them with us now. The physical pain is subsiding, but I find the emotional pain to be at times overwhelming. I just feel such a sense of loss and emptiness- and although this baby was only a part of my life for 15 weeks- I will never forget him or the impact that he had on me and our family. His little life had meaning, and purpose and will always be a part of his mommy's heart.
I have just been overwhelmed with the outpouring of LOVE and compassion by our friends. We appreciate all the notes, emails, calls, flowers and MEALS! I am just blown away that our friends have committed to bring us meals through the month of December- they are just unbelievable. I was telling my friend Pam last night, who brought dinner, that I am able to make dinner and go shopping now- but she said to let everyone do this for us... that it is just their way of showing us love. It means so much to us. Thank you.
